The results are in!!!

I went and got the mail today and my blood test results were waiting for me!  I have been really excited to get them because since my last test I have started taking some herbal supplements and essential oils to see if they will help me.  My headaches have pretty much vanished (I had them almost 24/7 before I started my regimen).  I also have more energy and I have lost 8 lbs since then!  Anyway, I opened the envelope and they have from 241 (November) to 201!!!!  In October they were at around 225 and before I was pregnant they were around 120!  Needless to say, I am very excited!  The specialists told me the only way my levels would go down would be to have brain surgery or to go on prescriptions!  I can't wait to see my specialists' and obgyn's faces when I tell them I lowered my prolactin levels while nursing on herbs and essential oils!  Oh wait!  I probably will never have to see those guys again because I am lowering my levels on my own!!!  Completely naturally and safe with no stupid side effects! Plus they didn't have go in through my nose and drill a hole into my brain and cut a tumor out and then pull it out through my nose!  I'm sorry I wasted all that money to see those guys!  I guess if I hadn't I may not have had the motivation and determination to do it on my own!  Call me Dr. Quinn :)  For all of you that are interested here is what I have used to lower my prolactinoma:

Please visit my Facebook Group for more information on the oils I am using to support my pituitary.  Thank you!
When using essential oils beware of their purity and content.  Most of the stuff you buy at health food stores are not very pure or are completely synthetic.  Personally I use doTERRA as they are the purest in the market w/ no fillers.

  1. Yay! Oh wow. This is so exciting! :)

Word of advice, don't get upset if you notice a rise in your prolactin again at some point in the future. When my naturopath successfully extinguished my lactation through natural interventions, he told me to expect a rise again at some point in the future. It takes some tweaking to get the dosages right after your body adapts.

But if you think about it, even if it takes you a year or so to figure it all out, that's a whole year that you've been able to put off surgery and a whole year that you've been able to keep breast-feeding!

Quick question: How did you figure out your dosage for these various things?

  2. Good question! With the Vitex I went to a naturopath that told me how much he recommends. I am going to cut my dosage in half here in the next few weeks because it should be built up in my system pretty soon. Thank you for your words of advice :)

The frankincense and Balance are in their purest forms when I get them as essential oils from doterra and so it is pretty impossible to overdose on them. Plus they are very good for you on many different levels. Basically I take as much as I can afford! The Frankincense I take* contains 90% Monoterpenes which are antitumor constituents (as well as other things). The other 10% contains Sesuiterpenes which help oxygenate the pituitary glands. I don't know if that means anything or not to you, but it is starting to mean a lot to me! I have a really great book that explains a lot of that stuff and it is really cool!!! (yeah I confess to being a bit of a nerd!!!)

*You have to be careful where you get essential oils from. Lots of them are either synthetic or contain fillers, pesticides, weeds of other things that should not be in there. I did A LOT of research on this and that is why I go through doTERRA.

  3. P.S. Frankincense is also totally fine to take when pregnant, so I'm hoping it can help control my tumor when baby time comes around again! I'm going to double check w/ a dr. beforehand tho just to make sure!

  4. Cool.

Btw, reading a book hardly counts as being a nerd! Far from it. Being informed is a way of life!

What is the title of the book?

    ReplyDelete
  5. So true! I guess I thought the whole chemical constituents stuff was a bit nerdy :) The book is called Modern Essentials. It is pretty handy...it has a ton of information and how to treat hundreds of conditions w/ essential oils. http://www.aromatools.com/product_p/1151.htm

  7. Hi Shy, I love your post. I'm definitely going to start up on the essential oils routine. Am so fed up with the medication and its side effects!

Thanks for being so proactive on your blog. I love your writing and the background :)

  9. thanks for your words of experience on here..I have started vitex pills and essential oils, but I have not started the vitex oil..where did you get the vitex oil? DoTerra does not carry it that I see. I did get the other essential oils from there. thanks,
    carrie

  10. Carrie, I bought my vitex oil at a local health food store before I knew about the importance of purity in oils...doterra sadly doesn't carry vitex yet, hopefully in the future. I actually don't use the vitex oil anymore, but if I do in the future I will be on the look out for more pure stuff than what I've got!!! I'm currently researching other oils that may hopefully do the same thing as vitex and when I do, I will post it...I've been doing lots of digging on hormones as of late and am excited to share some of what I have learned here in a few days! Vitex is just hard to find in a good pure form as an oil and the oil is much more effective than the herbal form.

  11. I am soooo excited I found your blog! Thank you so much for doing this. I just got diagnosed a couple of months ago. I never suffered from the disease itself as much as I have from the meds that last few months, and I know they have to be just awful for me. I've been hoping to find some guidance about natural treatments. I simply do not accept the idea that flooding my body with nauseating, fatiguing drugs that have the potential to make people into weeping narcoleptics and give them heart trouble later on is the answer.
    Thank you!!

  12. Dear Shy,
Thank you very much for your blog. I have not started on Bromo or Cabergoline for fear of side effects.
My naturopath has me on Vitex tablets 3000mg each night (3x 1000mg). This seems a much higher dose than what i've seen being used. What dose were you taking?

Also, one more question, did you have your baby boy before or after being diagnosed? I'm just curious about my fertility (although i'm not yet planning a pregnancy).

    Thanks so much.
    Jana.

  13. Jana-

The immediate side effects for Bromo are worse than Caber, but I hear Caber is linked to causing Parkinson's if used long term...All the more reason for natural stuff in my opinion. I was probably taking about the same amount of vitex as you are, but I felt like it was too much and ended up stopping on the vitex all together. Learn to trust your gut/body! Lots of naturopaths go by their guy (as well as some education) but their gut is not attached to your body! If you feel it's too much then it probably is. If it's helping your body will let you know that too.

I had my baby boy after being diagnosed. I was on Bromo and Clomid when I got pregnant though :) If you can get your levels low enough your fertility chances are very good unless there are other problems too.

  14. Hello again,
I'm slowly getting up to speed w/ your blog. I'm curious to know how good/bad these essential oils taste since you take some internally.

I was excited about finding your blog that I failed to share w/ you that I was diagnosed w/ a micro micro adenoma (MRI showed nothing but prolactin was in the 100's). Anyway, I've been dealing w/ hives (grew up w/ eczema so figured it was part of the eczema) prior to being diagnosed w/ the prolactinoma. Lately, I just can't help but think my pituitary & hormones are related to/causing the hives since the pituitary is near the hypothalamus, your temperature control center of your brain. Anyway, maybe I've shared too much.

I look forward to your email re: your opinion on the way these oils taste. I know I can't handle bitter, putrid tastes, otherwise I would've lived off Chinese herbal brews/teas a long time ago.

  15. Hello!
I just found this blog while researching natural cures for a prolactin secreting tumor. I am 27 and was diagnosed with my tumor at the age of 22. My levels were in the 500's. I was put on Cabergoline and didn't really have too bad of side effects..just constipation and some acne. My levels went down some but not enough and my tumor didn't shrink at all (I have a macro adenoma). So my DR decided it would be best for me to get surgery. He went in thru my nose. Needless to say, he didn't get ANY of my tumor, not even a little piece...even though he wanted all my money afterwards!! I have been to numerous Endo's since then and I am still on Cabergoline .05 twice a week. My levels are down to 49 range but that is still high (they are supposed to be under 20). I barely get my period when it comes...its usually every 5-6 weeks and doesn't last that long, but hey, at least I am getting it (I was without it for 3 years). Now my DR. thinks I should try for surgery again, this time through the inside of my upper lip. The first surgery was the worst experience of my life so I DEF. don't want to do it again. But, they insist I can't be on the medicine forever and will have a better chance at getting pregnant in the future if I were to go through the surgery. I really want to try a natural remedy first tho. I am really into eating Raw foods, and have found another website that lists all these foods that will naturally decrease my prolactin. I am considering stopping my medicine and doing my own study to see if I can lower my prolactin myself.

Do you think I should let my DR. know my plans? I don't want him to dismiss them because honestly DR's havent't done anything but try to make me take medicine and get surgery. So either way, I want to try an all raw diet focusing on the foods that are proven to lower prolactin..but I just didn't know if anything could happen if I just stopped taking my medicine.

    Thanks!

    1. I cannot believe that! Well, I do, but it seems so crazy that they didn’t get any of the tumor and are hoping you will have another surgery. I tell you what! That is the last thing I would do, but I am very very scared to death of surgery, so I may be biased! Haha! I would be very interested to know what website you were on that talked about the food that lowers prolactin. Will you send it to me at hyperprolactinoma@gmail.com ?
Also, yes, it is fine to let your dr. know of your plans, but you should know that he will try to talk you out of it! They do not understand natural/alternative means and so will discourage you from doing it. Your view of drs is pretty much how I feel for them. Just know, they tell everyone the same thing….medicine or surgery. They don’t understand that there are other things out there that can help. I would love to hear what you plan on doing. Please keep me posted! Feel free to email me  Shy

  16. I've been reading and wondering.
I started taking bromocriptine almost 2 years ago. My prolactin level was off the chart - in excess of 2100, yes 2100. After 14 or 15 months, my level was down to about 6.
I had unexplained side effects the first 2 weeks of taking bromocriptine - depression in the worst way. After those 2 weeks, I had no discernible side effects.
I hate admitting it, but when I ran out of money to fill my presp. in Canada and could not scrape up the money for the required MRI, I abruptly stopped taking bromocriptine. It has been over a month now. I had hoped to get a new prescription filled. But I now doubt I will.
I found this site today and have found the sharing very informative. Thank you.
    I will be back.

  17. Hi!
I just wanted to thank you for all the information you give us here. I was diagnosed with a prolactioma too and the doctor suggested me Cabergoline 0.5 twice a week. I do not intent to take thesse pills, thats why and how I...found you! :) I am going to try what you suggest here, and let you know after some period of time. My only problem is that I live in Greece and I dont know if I pay any extra taxes and customs taxes with my order.I will soon find out.
    Thanx again!
    May blessings from heart!

    1. I take them directly under my tongue and hold it there as long as possible. You will not have extra tax since doTERRA has an office in the UK. The website you can use for the UK is http://www.doterra.com/uk/. If you want a 25% discount, you can pay a membership fee (€20.00) and get the 25% off everything you order. It is well worth it especially if you will be ordering the Frankincense often. All you need to do it click "join" in the top right hand corner. Select "Europe/other" as your country and then "join as an independent product consultant". On the next page you will put in 18614 as the enroller ID (me)and fill everything else out as normal. If you have other questions, you can email me at shyanne.Hathaway@gmail.com :) I will get to it faster that way! I hope this helps you as much as it has helped me!!! I also found a good source of vitex, so let me know if you are interested in that as well! Thank you for reading and giving me encouragement. I really appreciate it!

    2. Hi - I just found your blog and your FB page and sent a "like" request. I am 55 and have a micro prolactinoma. My naturopath suggested vitex to balance the prolactin but wasn't sure if it would decrease the tumor. From your experience, did the vitex decrease the tumor as well? I am not too concerned about the prolactin elevation itself as I am passed the childbearing years - unless the elevated prolactin levels create other issues. I am mainly hoping to shrink the tumor size naturally.

  19. Hi All,

My Prolactinoma has been growing for 20 years and my Prolactin level was around 530,000. I see someone says up above 2100 was off the chart. :)

Here's my first MRI scan and I've just had my second and should be getting thee image next week. http://screencast.com/t/NzX3c4tF4

My prolactin is now down to 200,000 and am on 1mg of Cabergoline twice a week.

    Good luck to you all.

  20. This is such great information! I've been taking a whole slew of herbal supplements and it's working, I've reduced my microadenoma by 30% in 3 months! One of the supplements is ChasteBerry, which I think is also known as Vitex. Now I know which herbal supplement is probably the reason it's shrinking out of the lot. Thanks!

  21. I left a comment here a few months ago but it's not been approved. My Prolactin is now down to 98,000 and I'm on 5 mg of Cabergoline a week.
